Powders like molybdenum, tungsten, borate, graphite can be added incrementally to existing pipe-on-pipe formulations in small dosing to boost lubricity performance downhole. These powders can be added to totes at the wellhead when enhanced lubricity is important. They can also be suspended in liquid carriers.
Add a small quantity of the powder to a sample of the current formulation and measure the improvement in coefficient of friction. Field testing of performance improvement can be measured by adding pails of powder to totes of POP, or pounds of powder to pails of POP.
Powders like molybdenum disulfide and tungsten disulfide can be suspended in mineral oil or glycol carriers. This is what we do at Pipe On Pipe, LLC.
Pure solid powders can be expensive, but tech grade solid powders offer better economics in terms of price/performance. Some formulators use powders that are blends of various solid lubricant components.
